What is a logic grid puzzle?

A logic grid puzzle gives you a short scenario, a set of categories, and a list of clues - and exactly one arrangement of the facts that satisfies all of them. Five friends, five orders, five tables. Which is which? None of the clues tells you an answer outright. Together, they leave only one possibility standing.

You solve it on a grid. Each mini-grid compares one category against another, and every square is a question: does this pair go together? A tick confirms a match; a cross rules one out. The satisfying part is that the grid does half the work for you - one confirmed tick forces a row of crosses, enough crosses force the next tick, and a single clue can cascade through the whole board before you read the next line.

If you have met these as Einstein riddles, zebra puzzles or logic problems, they are the same thing under different names.

Choosing a board

Every puzzle here shows its grid size and a typical solve time before you open it.

Board size tells you the scale of the job. A 4 x 5 board - four categories, five items in each - is the standard here and a comfortable sitting. Wider boards take longer and leave far more room to go wrong.

Difficulty runs from Gentle to Expert. It reflects the kind of clues you will meet more than the size of the board - a Gentle puzzle tells you things directly, while a Testing one mostly tells you what cannot be true and leaves you to work forward from there. A small board with awkward clues can be harder than a large one with straightforward ones.

Typical session is measured from real solve data, not estimated. Treat it as a guide to how long you are committing to, not a target.
