Expert clue

This value is a fixed multiple of another

Also known in the clue library as Multiplicative (quantitative).

multiplicative
Clue pattern
A's value equals B's value times a fixed multiplier.
What to mark first
List only the value pairs where one truly divides evenly into the other by that multiplier.
Common mistake
Testing pairs by trial instead of checking which candidates actually divide evenly.
Mini-example
Mina's score was exactly double Theo's score.
Print-book tip
Note the multiplier next to the scale and only test pairs that divide evenly by it.

When and where this clue pays off

Two questions matter more than the pattern itself: does this clue give you everything now, or only later — and does it become a mark on the board, or a note you have to keep separately?

Builds as the board fills in

Only value pairs that divide evenly by the multiplier survive. Re-check the surviving pairs as the category narrows.

Marks the board directly

The surviving and eliminated pairs both show up as marks.

Reading the clue is half the job. These are the methods that turn it into board progress.
